Who is The Chocolate Cake Company?
The Chocolate Cake company is a family owned business that manufactures and delivers to your door, a rich dark chocolate mud cake, made with real chocolate and iced with real chocolate, in an attractive round gift box.
In 1997, Murray and Elizabeth Thwaites bought the business and recipe from a guy who was operating out of a tin shed (literally) and churning out approximately 50 cakes per week.
They stayed in those premises for a very short time, and then leased a factory in Otahuhu. The business gradually but steadily built from there, mostly through word of mouth.
In March 2000 they relinquished the factory, and leased a shop in Howick that served as a bakery and shop front open to the public (until this stage the business had purely been a delivery service).
In July 2002, they saw an opportunity for another shop in Wellington as there was no opposition to speak of down there. They sourced an empty shop, right in the middle of Lambton Quay (which was very fortuitous), and fitted it out accordingly. Murray then ran that solely and commuted weekly between Auckland and Wellington. Since then they have employed a sole charge manager who has run it very effectively and successfully.
Which brings us to where we are now implementing the Brand and service nationally!
Murray and Elizabeths children have been a great support all this while and have even modeled for photos that are used for the brand on the website, car, promotional material and shop fronts.
